The biggest puzzle piece in building out the Los Angeles Lakers roster this offseason is LeBron James. Everything revolves around LeBron, for better or worse, and finding role players that are comfortable around him is the key to being successful.

We saw a group of players that fit nicely next to LeBron after the 2023 trade deadline with the changes the Lakers made. Now, with a blank slate this summer, Rob Pelinka and co. should be looking to find more players that can fit in this manner.

Perhaps that means going after players that previously played with LeBron and know everything that it entails. There are some former LeBron teammates on the market the Lakers could pursue this summer (we are not including anyone who played with LeBron on the Lakers, that is for another article).

3 Former LeBron James teammates the Lakers could sign in free agency:

1. Kevin Love

Kevin Love’s tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers unceremoniously came to an end last season as the team bought him out after the trade deadline. If the Lakers didn’t trade for Mo Bamba then Love could have been a fit on the purple and gold.

However, he ultimately signed with the Miami Heat and proved that he can still contribute in a playoff rotation. He was not perfect but it is safe to say that he had a much bigger impact on Miami in the playoffs than anyone expected.

Los Angeles needs depth in the frontcourt this offseason and adding Love as a veteran role player on a minimum contract is not a bad shout at all. He doesn’t have to play a big role and would simply give the team regular season depth while also adding floor-spacing next to Anthony Davis.

The days of the Lakers only signing old veterans should be over. That being said, adding Love would not be a bad idea for the Lake Show.
