Kyrie vs CP3: Which star point guard should the Lakers sign?

There have been countless rumors swirling around LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Everything from LeBron retiring to the Lakers trading him to Dallas and flipping Anthony Davis for a young star to restart their core. In the midst of it all, the most likely course of action has always been building around LeBron and AD to make another run.

Such a run will require making difficult decisions about the point guard position. Russell Westbrook was a disaster for the team, and when he was swapped out for D’Angelo Russell at the Trade Deadline the team took off. Does that mean the franchise is ready to commit to Russell as their point guard for the end of LeBron’s prime?

The Lakers have options at point guard

It’s certainly possible they go that route, but thankfully it looks like the Lakers will have options on the open market. Former LeBron teammate Kyrie Irving could leave the Dallas Mavericks to team up with James, while one of his close friends in Chris Paul is likely going to be waived by the Phoenix Suns.

That’s two former All-Star point guards that the Lakers could pursue; who should they prioritize? If both are willing to come to the Lakers, how do they make the decision on who to add in order to put the best possible team around LeBron James and Anthony Davis?
