Lakers who are primed to disappoint this season: 1. Christian Wood

The Los Angeles Lakers had a long stare-down with Christian Wood for the 14th roster spot. It was well-known that Los Angeles was looking for a floor-spacing big to sign and Wood was by far the most talented option on the market.

However, it appeared as if Wood was waiting to see if a Damian Lillard trade would happen so he could sign with the Miami Heat and have a bigger role. Nothing came to fruition and Wood ultimately signed a veteran minimum deal with the Lakers.

Of course, the moment that Wood signed with Los Angeles every Lakers fan forgot about his flaws and instead touted how stacked this roster is. While Wood undoubtedly has natural talent, there is a reason why he was available to be signed in September at the minimum. Fans shouldn’t forget about this.

This is not a situation like Monk’s where Wood is someone who simply has not gotten a chance to tap into his potential. The Lakers will be Wood’s eighth team in eight seasons. He has never made the playoffs and he has proven to be a locker room distraction in the past.

Add in the fact that Wood cannot defend and suddenly all of that offensive potential is outweighed by negatives. That is why no other contending team even took a take on Wood and why Lakers fans will be disappointed.

By February fans will be calling for Wood to be traded or released.
