The Los Angeles Lakers have played two preseason games thus far and it is safe to say that fans are very happy with the results. While Los Angeles is 1-1, the role players have looked excellent through two games. Individual performances are much more important than game outcomes in the preseason.
The Lakers obviously are not pushing the limits in the preseason, especially with the team’s star players. Anthony Davis’ workload has been very limited while LeBron James is not even playing every preseason game. He earned that right being the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
After missing the first preseason game of the year and then suiting up for game two, it was unclear whether or not LeBron was going to play in the team’s next game on Wednesday. Head coach Darvin Ham cleared the air regarding LeBron’s status on Tuesday.
LeBron James not playing in Lakers’ preseason game vs Kings
This is a bummer for any Orange County fans who want to make the short commute to the Honda Center to see the Lakers play. While the Crypto.com Arena is not that far from Anaheim, it would be nice to go grab lunch at Downtown Disney before seeing LeBron play in person.
Fans will not be able to live that dream but it is for the best. There is absolutely no reason to push it with LeBron in the preseason and he has an entire season to gear up. This is not a situation where LeBron needs to be vintage LeBron in game one of the season. All the Lakers need from him is to stay healthy and be ready to contribute in the NBA Playoffs.
LeBron said before the preseason that the goal was to play half of the Lakers’ six preseason games, so it appears that he is taking a “game on, game off” approach. If he and the team continues this trend then he will be suiting up against the Warriors on Friday. That is the team’s first preseason game at Crypto.com Arena.
That would theoretically line LeBron up to play in the team’s last preseason game of the year. Los Angeles ends the preseason on October 17 against the Phoenix Suns. That game will be played in Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs.
