Kanye West's song titled Homecoming could offer a preview of what is to come for Anthony Davis. The Windy City may have a spot waiting for the former Los Angeles Lakers star.

Amid a turbulent season for the Dallas Mavericks, Davis has been at the epicenter of trade rumors since the organization parted ways with Nico Harrison. One natural connection that many were quick to make was the Chicago native joining his local team.

The Chicago Bulls had a strong 6-1 start to the 2025-26 NBA season before plummeting down to their current record of 9-11. Losers of four straight, the Bulls could certainly used a spark. ESPN's Jamal Collier reported those conversations have taken place.

Collier wrote, "The Bulls have had internal discussions about how to proceed, including conversations about Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis, sources told ESPN, whom they believe could help the team's porous rim protection and defensive interior."

Chicago homecoming would be a fun story for Anthony Davis — but remains unlikely

Collier continued his report to state that team sources told him Chicago is unwilling to sacrifice members of their young core to push for that type of trade until the franchise is closer to contention. They are not near that right now.

A move for Davis would help them bridge that gap, but it would be more about rescuing the team from a freefall than it would be solidifying an already strong group. Collier cited that one source mentioned their stance regarding how chasing a megastar was not the way to proceed yet.

The possibility of Davis heading to Chicago should not be ruled out completely. It is a move that would be quite fitting of what the Bulls have done in the past. Plus, the former Lakers big man does still offer plenty of attractive qualities when available.

As alluded to above, the Bulls have one of the worst defenses in basketball, ranking in the bottom 10. They are dead last when it comes to opponent points in the paint, surrendering 56.0 of those every game.

Those are areas Davis can help fix.

The urgency on how quickly the Bulls want playoff experience for their young guys could be the difference-maker here. Chicago can very easily fall out of the Eastern Conference Play-In with the Milwaukee Bucks right on their tail for the 10th spot.

A Davis-Bulls union makes sense on several fronts. However, it would be a large investment. To the concerns of the team sources above, it would be equally understandable if Chicago shied away from that big of a move at present.
