Bronny James has heard all of it, and I mean ALL of it. The expectations. The criticism. The harsh comments that he is only in the NBA league because of his last name.
After a promising Summer League run, he is starting to answer some of that noise with his game, and he may be getting another shot to do it, this time on one of Los Angeles' most respected courts.
According to Drew League commissioner Chaniel Smiley, Bronny might be suiting up in the iconic pro-am league very soon. “I’ve heard about Bronny [James], but nothing clear on that yet. I heard Bronny might play. But nothing concrete,” Smiley told Mark Medina of RG.org in a recent interview.
If you are not familiar, the Drew League is where real hoopers earn respect. It is not just a show; it is a great chance to showcase your game. NBA players, overseas pros, college stars, and streetball legends all share the floor.
And the energy? It is absolutely unmatched. If Bronny plays, he will for sure be tested in a very real way, but more importantly, he will also have a chance to keep building confidence and rhythm.
Bronny James' summer league offered a pleasant surprise
He has already had a great start to his summer. In Las Vegas, he averaged 14.3 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.8 rebounds, while shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor.
For a second-year player who barely saw the court as a rookie, that is meaningful growth, summer league or not. The Lakers noticed too; sitting him out of the final game was not just about rest, it was about protecting a player they clearly view as part of their future.
James could add his own moment to Drew League history
The commissioner of the Drew League went on to state, “I think it would be be great…it would be interesting to see how he matches up with these guys. It would be interesting to see.” I could not agree with him more. Fans would enjoy seeing him on a floor, where he can have fun.
LeBron James’ history at the Drew speaks for itself. Everyone that is a fan should remember his classic moment of dropping 42 points, grabbing 16 boards, and snatching 4 steals.
If Bronny steps onto that same floor, it will give him a great chance to add his own chapter. It won't be as the son of the “King,” but as a player trying to earn his own crown.
