Bronny James may already know where his Lakers future is headed

Bronny James' $2.3 million salary for next season became guaranteed last week, just before LeBron James informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he wouldn't be returning. At least for now, the 21-year-old is still on the roster, but that could change when his father makes the decision the NBA world is waiting for. If it's Cleveland, which is where signs currently point (and that could change), the Cavs have a roster spot they could use on the 21-year-old, too.

Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported on July 4 that there is a "conspiracy whisper" (subscription required) that the Cavaliers want to make sure they have a spot for Bronny if they get LeBron. On Tuesday, Joe Vardon of The Athletic wrote that Cleveland could "potentially" be keeping a spot open (subscription required) for the younger James.

Where LeBron ends up next is still unknown, at least to the public, but there is reason to believe that Bronny has a good idea of what will happen. After all, it could involve his future, since it sounds like he and his father would be a package deal for the Cavaliers (or whatever team he chooses).

It's kind of important for Bronny to know what's next for him.

Cavaliers could be keeping a roster spot open for Bronny

ESPN's Shams Charania said on Tuesday that it "seems" as if Cleveland, Miami, and Philadelphia are the top three teams in the running for LeBron.

Where he goes could be where he ends his career, so it would be fitting for it to be the Cavaliers. He grew up in Akron, outside of Cleveland, and it's where his NBA career began. It's where he won a title in 2016 during his second stint with the team. Oh, and it's where Bronny was born.

In January, when the Lakers visited Cleveland, LeBron got emotional after the Cavaliers' in-game video tribute. It was even more special for him to see Bronny take the floor in the third quarter, after the crowd was chanting his son's name.

Although the Cavaliers' reception of two of their own was expected, especially given the circumstances surrounding whether it would be LeBron's final game in Cleveland, it also fueled speculation that the two would team up in Northeast Ohio.

Very soon, that could become a reality, but it will be up to the Lakers whether they want to send Bronny to the Cavaliers (and it's hard to see them drawing that line in the sand). Rich Paul, who also represents Bronny, may have already been in contact with LA about it. You know he will find a way to make that happen.

Bronny hasn't said anything publicly about what next season will look like for him. He knows he's under contract with the Lakers, but he could also know that he will soon be on the way to the Cavaliers, giving LeBron another reason to return to Cleveland.
