Cameron Carr has been officially introduced as the newest member of the Los Angeles Lakers. Selected at No. 24 overall in the 2026 NBA Draft, Carr comes to Los Angeles with significant hype as an explosive athlete who boasts the skill and physical attributes to be an impact player.

If Carr follows through on the comments he made during his introductory press conference, then it won't take long at all for him to be a fan favorite.

Carr seemed to be rising up the ranks after a sensational showing at the 2026 NBA Draft Combine. Unfortunately, concerns over his thin frame and the fact that he'll be a 22-year-old rookie seemed to play a part in his slide down draft boards. Thankfully, he's already addressed the element of those concerns that he can control.

One of the first claims that Carr made at his introductory press conference was that the gym would be a "second home" for him as he aspires to add muscle to his fairly thin frame.

In addition to addressing the primary criticism against him, Carr said what many Lakers fans have been eager to hear from those in the purple and gold: That defense will be his top on-court priority.

If Carr is a man of his word, then Lakers fans will quickly grow to appreciate what he brings to the team and reward him for his efforts with their unrelenting support.

Cameron Carr's top priorities: Defense and bulking up

Carr is the type of player who jumps off of the screen. His highlight reel looks more like Vince Carter than a projected role player, as he soars through the sky for blocks and dunks, shoots with limitless range, and even makes plays as a passer that defy the information on his scouting report.

Thankfully, Carr already seems to have a grasp on how he can best help the Lakers: By defending and utilizing his athletic gifts to make plays away from the ball.

What makes Carr's comments about his role so intriguing is that he's also acknowledged the reality of what may hold him back. At 184 pounds, he lacks the strength to consistently win physical battles against the type of veteran athletes he's due to encounter in the NBA.

Rather than resting on his laurels and believing that his length and athleticism will be enough, however, he's committed to adding muscle to his frame.

Standing at 6'4.5" without shoes with a monster 7'0.75" wingspan and a jaw-dropping 42.5" vertical, Carr otherwise has the physical gifts to compete with just about any wing in the NBA. He's quick laterally and vertically, and ranks among the fastest wings in his class.

If Carr is truly committed to bulking up and prioritizing defense and off-ball activity above his own isolation pursuits, then Lakers fans won't take long to grow to love him.
