The Los Angeles Lakers employ the best scorer on the planet right now. Few would dispute that fact, and those who would are fighting a losing battle. Luka Doncic is right on track for the second scoring title of his career. Unfortunately, too many are ready to dismiss this as another day at the office and not celebrate just how ridiculous Doncic has been in 2025-26. That will not be the case here.
Doncic had yet another sensational scoring night on Wednesday in a decisive 137-130 win over the Indiana Pacers. The Lakers guard poured in 43 points, shooting 15-of-30 from the field and 4-of-11 from beyond the arc.
That capped off an electrifying road trip for Doncic which featured his lowest scoring performance being a 32-point outing in the sole loss against the Detroit Pistons on Monday. During that 5-1 road trip, the NBA pointed out that Luka had just accomplished a bucket-getting feat that had not been seen since a certain Chicago Bulls legend.
The league's official Twitter/X account posted: "He becomes the first player since Michael Jordan in 1986 to average 40 [points] over a six-game span on the road."
That is only the tip of the iceberg with how impressive Doncic's scoring has been in 2025-26.
Luka Doncic's 2025-26 scoring title will have some otherworldly feats
25 points is typically the benchmark for a good scoring outing in the modern NBA after the explosion of pace and space. Doncic has little to no difficult in getting to that number.
The Slovenian superstar has played 61 games in 2025-26. Only eight of those contests have involved him scoring less than 25 points.
Furthermore, Doncic has only scored less than 20 points three times during this entire season. Two of those outings were games in which Luka failed to play 20 minutes and the night was cut short.
Doncic has been more likely to pop off for 40-plus during this campaign than he has been to score less than 25 points. Luka has 14 games of going for at least 40 points in 2025-26, with the season high of 60 coming in the recent 134-126 win over the Miami Heat on the road trip that just concluded.
Throughout all of this, Doncic has not just been chucking the basketball. Despite leading the league in field goal attempts per game, Luka has an efficient true shooting percentage of 61.3. That is comfortably clear of the league average in the category of 58.1 percent. The number only gets better when solely stacking him against guards.
The long and short of it: Doncic has been a ridiculously great scorer for the Lakers this season. Diving into just some of the statistics tell a story of how easy Luka makes the game look in that department.
