Many Los Angeles Lakers fans were quick to celebrate the news of Malik Beasley having his charges dropped in the hopes of seeing the veteran sharpshooter return to California. Beasley, himself, stated that move should be anticipated in the near future.
Beasley wrote on Instagram, "Year 10 is approaching.. probably the most interesting one of them all.. and the goal remains the same .. be better than last year 😈 my decision is near 👀."
The last statement was snuck into a larger caption. That would be the important part, though. Beasley has hinted that tweet notifications should be turned on, because that Shams Charania report could be coming any day.
There is both a case for, and a case against the Lakers bringing back Beasley ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season. The fact of the matter here: that signing is largely unlikely for the Lakers at this point of the offseason.
Malik Beasley reunion in Los Angeles is unlikely for numerous reasons
A Lakers insider like Jovan Buha has already addressed the probability of the team signing Beasley. It was not an optimistic take. Buha did not rule it out entirely, but he gave it a 'low percent chance.'
It should also be pretty telling that Rob Pelinka's Lakers have not surfaced much alongside the other teams who have been confidently linked to Beasley since having his off-court issues put behind him. Michael Scotto reported a clear list of teams who were targeting the veteran sharpshooter.
"Update: The Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves have recently touched base on Malik Beasley, along with the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers, sources told [HoopsHype]," Scotto told everyone in late August.
The Lakers would need to clear up a roster spot and financial flexibility to offer Beasley a contract. Those plans have not been put into motion.
It could certainly be possible that the Lakers agree to the deal in principle and then work towards creating that space before making it official. However, the signs would have probably been there by now.
When the Los Angeles Clippers landed Bradley Beal, clear actions were taken ahead of the move to free up the space for him. It has been quiet on the other side of town for the Lakers with relation to this potential signing.
Beasley has made it clear that his next chapter will be announced in the near future. A betting man would not be all-in on the Lakers right now.
