The Los Angeles Lakers are faced with a Dalton Knecht question that no one seems to know the ideal answer to. It's a question that's persisted since February: Does Knecht still fit with the team now that Luka Doncic is the franchise player instead of Anthony Davis?
With limited evidence to support the belief that Knecht can realize his potential in Los Angeles, it's fair to believe a fresh start is needed. Luckily, the same can be said about Brice Sensabaugh.
Sensabaugh has found himself in a similar position to Knecht in the sense that he's struggling to follow up on a promising 2024-25 campaign. The Utah Jazz wing established himself as a top-tier shooter, but minutes have been tough to come by in 2025-26.
With Sensabaugh's playing time with the Jazz recently reaching new lows, the Lakers should consider calling Utah about a one-for-one swap.
Sensabaugh has appeared in 22 games this season, but his playing time has been cut from 20.2 minutes per game in 2024-25 to 15.6 in 2025-26. It reached a new low on Dec. 7, when he played just seven minutes—just two days after he received 12 and six after he was on the court for 10.
With Sensabaugh seemingly falling out of favor in Utah, it would behoove Los Angeles to see if there's mutual interest in a swap for Knecht.
Dalton Knecht for Brice Sensabaugh would give players, teams fresh start
Sensabaugh, who's still just 22 years of age, had something of a breakout season in 2024-25. He averaged 10.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.2 three-point field goals made in 20.2 minutes per game, shooting at a shockingly efficient clip of .459/.422/.890.
As a second-year player, the 6'6" and 235-pound Sensabaugh was already showing the potential to become a three-level scorer and elite three-point shooter.
In addition to shooting efficiently overall, Sensabaugh buried a top-tier 43.7 percent of his catch-and-shoot three-point field goals in 2024-25. That put him at No. 9 in the NBA among players who attempted at least 3.0 catch-and-shoot three-point field goals per game and made at least 65 appearances.
Not to be confused with a player who has just one method of contributing, Sensabaugh utilized his powerful frame and impressive skill to shoot 46.2 percent from midrange and show clear signs of promise with his floater.
Perhaps a fresh start is what Sensabaugh needs to carve out a consistent role in a new rotation and rediscover his form. He admittedly has similar issues with defensive inconsistency as those that have plagued Knecht, but perhaps a change of scenery could be what the doctor ordered.
It may ultimately prove to be a lateral move for both sides in the end, but sometimes, giving a young player a chance to grow in a new environment is the best thing one can do for them.
For Knecht, he'd have a chance to go to Utah and become more involved in a free-flowing offense that doesn't have the isolation stars that Los Angeles has built its roster around. For Sensabaugh, he'd have multiple playmakers to work off of and clear value to a Lakers team that ranks No. 23 in three-point field goals made.
It may not be the blockbuster trade Lakers fans are hoping to see this season, but Knecht for Sensabaugh could be a move that rights the ship for both promising players.
