Despite being one of the best talents the NBA has to offer, Luka Doncic has known more than his fair share of ownerships groups throughout his career thus far. Once Josh Kushner and Bob Iger officially take over the Los Angeles Lakers, that will make it five majority owners that Doncic has played for.

With that type of instability, the top-five player in the world needs to be given a sense of security and reassurance regarding his position within the franchise. That should be doubly true after a new ownership group got him exiled from the Dallas Mavericks in a scenario no one believed was on the table until it materialized to break Twitter/X on a Saturday night.

Marc Stein's latest on murmurings from around the league has indicated Kushner and Iger are trying to do their part to develop a relationship with the franchise cornerstone. The Lakers have a reputation of taking care of their megastars over the generations. Doncic should be no different.

"I'm told Lakers star Luka Doncic this week opened a dialogue with the team's new lead ownership duo of Bob Iger and Josh Kushner and plans to meet with them at the first opportunity."

Lakers' new owners are doing the due diligence to keep Luka Doncic comfortable in Los Angeles

When that first opportunity for a meeting will be is still unclear. Stein reminded everyone that Doncic is spending the entire offseason in Slovenia in an effort to be closer to his two daughters. Are Kushner and Iger going to be booking their flights to Eastern Europe?

Whenever that first meeting happens, it is encouraging to know that Luka has already gotten to have dialogue with both Iger and Kushner. Should the two end up in Slovenia before the offseason is over, that would undoubtedly serve as a big statement of just how much they value Doncic.

Remember, Mark Walter's group maintained a steady line of communication with their superstar point guard during their (incredibly) short time of working together. That was a great call after Doncic was scorned by the Adelson and Dumont families in Dallas.

2026-27 will be the first year of Luka's new extension in Los Angeles. 2027-28 immediately becomes the last guaranteed season Doncic has under contract before a player option for 2028-29.

The Lakers would be wise to not give their all-world talent any inklings of doubt. Doncic does not to be given need any reason to truly consider an NBA life outside of Los Angeles.
