It felt like a gut punch when news broke that LeBron James informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he wouldn't suit up for the team in his 24th season. That was over two weeks ago, though, and since then, they've filled in most of the gaps on their roster. They haven't been stuck wondering what will happen with the 41-year-old and how it will affect their future.
As expected, James didn't make his long-awaited announcement at Fanatics Fest on Thursday during his Mind the Game live podcast. Tyrese Haliburton, his guest, tried to get something out of LeBron, but to no avail. He did say that he wouldn't hold things up for too much longer.
Tyrese Haliburton asked LeBron James about his free agency decision.

LeBron: "We already talked about this in the back..."
Haliburton: "Okay, okay. I'll leave it alone."

The Cavaliers, Heat, Warriors, Sixers, and Timberwolves are waiting to see if they are the winners of the LeBron sweepstakes. He could always choose another team, like the Nuggets (let's hope not). It seems Cleveland is in the end, but it's still all up in the air.
His decision reportedly won't be motivated by money, but the teams in the running are still stuck waiting to see how they will need to round out the roster if he doesn't go there. Luckily, he let LA know ahead of time so that it could make the necessary moves.
LeBron still hasn't made his free agency decision
James could've told the Lakers he was unsure whether he'd be back and that he wanted to consider either joining another team or staying in LA. If that were the case, they'd be stuck in a holding pattern, as his potential suitors are now.
Knowing that he won't retire with the Lakers stings, but it would've stung even more if they hadn't found that out until well after free agency began. James actually did them a favor.
At Giannis Antetokounmpo's introductory press conference with the Heat on Thursday, Pat Riley said Miami is like everyone else, waiting to see what will happen. Brian Windhorst said that LeBron and his agent, Rich Paul, haven't relayed any information to the teams in the running about what they're thinking. It's truly a big question mark that continues to grow with each passing day.
Los Angeles could still be affected by where LeBron ends up, especially if he stays in the West, but it's a relief knowing the team's future doesn't hinge on a decision with no set deadline. It could happen tomorrow, or next week, or weeks down the road.
LeBron clearly is in no rush, and for the Lakers, at least, that's no big deal.
