The schedule is out and there are plenty of things to be thankful for if you are the Los Angeles Lakers. The way their 2026-27 season is going to end would not be one of them. March and April should both be difficult months for the Lakers.
March 3 and onward is going to be filled with tougher competitors and difficult stretches. The race toward securing prime playoff seeding is far from easy. The Lakers will either be amply tested by the time the postseasons starts, surviving a brutal onslaught of talented teams, or they will finish the season much lower than they would have hoped to after falling short.
Lakers will need some March magic again to navigate tough month
The Lakers' March starts off in the middle of a road trip that has them in Orlando. Things pick up mightily from there.
After the game against the Orlando Magic, the Lakers face the Philadelphia 76ers (road), Oklahoma City Thunder (home), New York Knicks (home), and Cleveland Cavaliers in four of their next fives games. Once that stretch is over, they play against playoff teams from this past season in three of the next four that follow.
The Lakers wrap up the month with a road trip that extends into the start of April. Four games of the five-game trip away from home will be in March. That includes traveling to Miami, Cleveland, and Houston, before Memphis gives them a brief breather.
A red-hot March against notable competition helped jumpstart the Lakers last season. Los Angeles will undoubtedly hope they can find similar success in 2027.
April brings a brutal end to the Lakers' 2026-27 season
The Lakers play six games in March, and at least five of them will bring a notable challenge. The Lakers will play the Thunder to start the month before following that up with a matchup against the San Antonio Spurs.
Closing out the season, the Lakers will face the Minnesota Timberwolves for two of their last three games before ending the regular season campaign at home against the Phoenix Suns. The only real relief in April is a contest against the Dallas Mavericks, and even they could be a pesky out.
March will not be kind to the Lakers. April may be even more fierce. The silver lining of seeing that looming threat would be knowing that if Los Angeles can make it through those games on the right end of the result more often than not, then they will be set up just fine for playoff basketball.
