The NBA never fails to remind you of just how quickly things move in this league. Shams Charania just dropped a massive bombshell on the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.
Charania reported on Twitter/X, "Giannis Antetokounmpo and his agent Alex Saratsis have started conversations with the Milwaukee Bucks about the two-time NBA MVP's future – and discussing whether his best fit is staying or elsewhere. ... A resolution is expected in the coming weeks."

Charania then made an appearance for NBA on ESPN to offer more details. The top insider in the league told everyone Giannis has been frustrated over the losing spell plaguing the Bucks. That comes with a 'sense of tension' in the locker room.
Charania said Antetokounmpo was sold on a championship vision in Milwaukee. The Bucks were in for serious consequences, depending on how the season continues to play out, according to the NBA insider.
For those wondering what that sound in the distance is, that would be Rob Pelinka's music. From cryptic social media moves to once again being at the top of the NBA rumor mill, Antetokounmpo is on everyone's mind. Pelinka will need a moment to seriously look in the mirror and ask himself if this is the opportunistic moment he was waiting for.
Lakers' ceiling with Doncic-Antetokounmpo duo is too juicy to ignore
The Los Angeles Lakers are 15-5, second in the Western Conference, and cautiously optimistic about their status of being contenders for the 2025-26 season. Is making an all-out push for Antetokounmpo wise in this moment?
The short answer is yes.
Getting an opportunity to pair two of the five best players on the planet does not come around too often. The last time the Lakers had that, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, they won a championship.
One could easily argue Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic as the better duo too. Even without considering that much, it's still an incredible foundation for a championship window whatever way you slice it.
The next conversation is the tough part.
2020's championship rings were secured with a cast of great role players. The Lakers would not have that with a midseason move for Antetokounmpo. If they acquire him now, to some extent, they are banking on their window properly opening next year, after an offseason to fill out the roster around their two superstars.
The other key part here is price. What would pursuing Antetokounmpo cost? The answer is: Austin Reaves, probably.
The Lakers were adamant about not including him in trades during the offseason. If any player would force the franchise to waver, Giannis would likely be it.
In an ideal world, Antetokounmpo would wait until 2027 to give the Lakers a much easier path to acquiring him (via free agency). The problem for Pelinka is Giannis wants to win now. Wasting two seasons before that time comes is an understandable frustration that someone like him would not want to experience.
As discussions happen in Milwaukee, they will undoubtedly also take place in Los Angeles.
