The Los Angeles Lakers will return from the All-Star break with a pivotal game against a team they're rationally frustrated with. Mere weeks after the Mark Williams trade controversially fell through, the Lakers will face off against the Charlotte Hornets in an intriguing matchup on Feb. 19.
The big question surrounding the upcoming encounter with Charlotte is whether or not Los Angeles' successful trade acquisition, Luka Doncic, will play.
Doncic, 25, has played limited minutes since arriving in Los Angeles due to his recovery from a preexisting calf injury. He played 24 minutes in his Lakers debut and was active for 25 two days later during a rematch with the Utah Jazz.
According to Mark Medina of CBSLA, head coach JJ Redick revealed that Doncic will be off of his minutes restriction and available for the game against the Hornets.
Lakers coach JJ Redick on Luka Doncic: "He’ll be fine. That extra five-six days of All-Star break was good for him. His minutes will be up tomorrow. And I don’t think that there’s going to be any sort of restrictions going forward."

There's a chance that Doncic will play only one of the Lakers' next two games, but the decision to lift the restriction is essential information.
Luka Doncic off of minutes restriction, available against Hornets
Marc Stein of The Stein Line reported on Feb. 17 that Doncic is unlikely to play both legs of the Lakers' upcoming back-to-back. Los Angeles will host Charlotte on Feb. 19 and will travel to face the Portland Trail Blazers on Feb. 20.
Doncic hasn't yet been ruled out against the Trail Blazers, however, which could imply that he'll be available for that potentially crucial outing.
After facing off against Charlotte and Portland, Los Angeles will begin a brutal stretch of games. They'll face the Denver Nuggets on Feb. 22, the Dallas Mavericks on Feb. 25, the Minnesota Timberwolves on Feb. 27, and the LA Clippers on Feb. 28 and Mar. 2.
Los Angeles will play a winnable game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Mar. 4, followed by clashes with the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, and Milwaukee Bucks.
That's the theme of the final 30 games of the Lakers' season. They're due to face a number of postseason-caliber teams the rest of the way, including a back-to-back during which they'll take on Milwaukee and Denver.
That makes games against non-contenders such as the Hornets and Trail Blazers essential to win as the Lakers look to string together enough victories to clinch a playoff berth.
Thankfully, the minutes restriction has been lifted and the Lakers will now have an opportunity to truly play through Doncic. It remains to be seen how he'll fit alongside LeBron James and Austin Reaves, but excitement is rational and understandable.
As the game nears, further updates are due to be provided on Doncic's status for the game against the Hornets. Be sure to check back with Lake Show Life for any and all information!
