If there is anyone who understands a thing or two about being the best in the business, it's LeBron James. The all-time great carried the torch as the face of the league for almost as long as he's been in the NBA. That notoriety and status came with a whole lot of winning involved.
James needed a bit of help to figure out how to climb the NBA mountaintop in that regard. Going down to South Beach to join Dwyane Wade, a proven champion, certainly helped. LeBron now finds himself in a position to offer that same type of guidance to Luka Doncic.
James already played a part in showing Doncic the type of dedication and care that goes into body maintenance. What followed was the incredible transformation that was endlessly discussed during the offseason. LeBron's next step is helping Luka figure out how to win a championship. That is, at the very least, what his agent Rich Paul thought.
Paul said, "LeBron has his championships. He has his accolades. He's a first ballot Hall of Famer. He has all these things. Luka doesn't. He has the talent, but he hasn't won a championship yet. ... Let's help him understand what it's like or how to win a championship."
LeBron can share his endless wisdom on how to win a title with Doncic
James has four championships in his career — two with the Miami Heat, one with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and one with the Los Angeles Lakers. LeBron is the only player in NBA history to secure a Finals MVP with three different franchises.
Before anyone starts talking about the losses in the NBA Finals, I promise you that's not the contradictory argument you think it is. It also misses the main point of what Paul was discussing.
James' agent thought it mattered so much to put the right people around Doncic in the locker room. The Lakers superstar needs the right attitudes, work ethics, professionalism, play, IQ, and a bunch of other things. It sure does sound like Paul was alluding to his client, in more ways than one there.
You can't even really blame him. The point being made makes sense.
Paul claimed he hadn't been 'in the weeds' enough to know if James is offering that type of wisdom and guidance for Doncic as we speak (or type). However, one would imagine LeBron has nuggets of wisdom to spare. If the aging star's postgame talks are an indication, those nuggets may just get passed along by the sheer oversharing he does alone.
