LeBron James has nothing left to prove in the NBA. After one of the most legendary careers the league has ever seen, many will already confidently believe that James is the greatest player to have ever laced up basketball shoes. Suddenly, there is even more room to add to that.
The injuries to both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves created a scenario that no one would have predicted for LeBron and the Los Angeles Lakers this season. James is now starring as Jon Snow, standing in front of the coming Houston Rockets army with a sword held high.
Talk about LeBron's legacy is somewhat of a joking matter at this point of his career. Anyone who doubts what he's done is not to be taken seriously. However, James holding his ground while 41 years old and undermanned against a strong Rockets team would add a nice bit of extra lore to his playing days. That is what Mike Shearer suggested in his latest write-up for Piston Powered.
"A 41-year-old outlasting a physical Houston team would be yet another late-career line item for future generations to marvel at. When you’re trying to be remembered as the best of all time, every accomplishment matters."

Shearer's point is an excellent one. It's not like LeBron needs to win against the Rockets to secure any significant notoriety for his career. However, defeating Houston would serve as part of a satisfying epilogue for a story that has already featured its climax.
Many were daring enough to crown James as the greatest of all time after the Cleveland Cavaliers made their 3-1 comeback against the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals. That championship is often argued as the one which holds the most weight in league history.
James has done plenty since to only reaffirm those beliefs.
The 2018 playoff run was legendary, even if it ended with a loss in the Finals to the juggernaut Warriors team of that season. Winning his fourth championship and becoming the only player in NBA history with an NBA Finals MVP for three different franchises helped add a ton to his career as well.
Then, there's all the incredible longevity feats like becoming the NBA's all-time leading scorer, continuing to pad his record for the most All-Star appearances, All-NBA selections, etc.
It has all amounted to a story that tells itself by now. Even so, one more added moment for the mythos will certainly not hurt James in the slightest. LeBron is pretty much stat-padding accomplishments at this point for a career that only asks for bonus points.
