LeBron James disappointed a lot of people when he announced during his media availability period at the NBA All-Star Game that he would not be competing in the festivities. While the mass audiences were upset with James taking up a roster spot that could have gone to another deserving talent, Lakers fans were likely to be more concerned with the long-term outlook of the injuries for LeBron.

Lakers Nation does not need to be reminded that James is 40 years old. That fact is well known, considering it is brought up time and time again to remind everyone just how ludicrous it is that the 21-time All-Star is still playing at the elite level that he is. However, the concerns of a once indominable body being more prone to injuries in LeBron's older years are also not lost on anyone.

Lakers will keep a close eye on James' health

The peace of mind that can be found with the situation is the fact that foot and ankle soreness does not appear to be a particularly terrifying ailment for James. The four-time champion sitting out the All-Star Game was probably more of a precautionary move than anything. At the end of the day, that contest does not matter towards anything of signficance regarding the 2024-25 NBA season.

However, James maintaining a clean bill of health and remaining dominant is crucial to the Lakers having any hopes of winning an NBA championship during the 2025 NBA Playoffs. This is especially true considering how ill-equipped Los Angeles is to withstanding significant injuries to anyone in their rotation overall.

With the Lakers getting positive developments in the Luka Doncic injury situation, James will receive his fair share of focus. JJ Redick explained the Lakers will continue to be diligent with regard to the ageless wonder donning purple and gold.

"It’s something that we managed all year," the Lakers head coach told Mark Medina of James' foot and ankle. "It was sore over the weekend. He was able to do most of practice today. But like it’s been all year, it’s a day-to-day thing. That’s something we’ve had to manage & will continue to manage the rest of the year."

Nagging injuries can raise long-term concerns for any player. However, the statements from Redick can reassure those listening that he and his staff are both well aware and well prepared to deal with the situation.
