Not everyone in life will be blessed with a working environment in which they come in every day and like who they are surrounded by. For those who know the feeling, they will confidently rave about the type of difference it can make. Such should be the case for the Los Angeles Lakers.
LeBron James said: "We're in a good place right now. The chemistry is high. Everyone loves being around each other. We love playing for one another. We love being off the floor with one another. It's a good, tight-knit group, and we've got to carry that for the rest of the regular season."
What James discussed after the Lakers' decisive 120-101 win over the Washington Wizards on Monday did not end at 82 games. LeBron added that carrying their bond over into the postseason and until the end was something Los Angeles needed to do as well.
Good teams can become great teams and overachieve the sum of their parts when the chemistry is where it needs to be. The Lakers will not have to look far for an example of that, and the confidence it should bring into the building is bound to extend out to the fanbase.
Pacers already laid the blueprint for the Lakers to follow
The 2024-25 Indiana Pacers are a great team to look at when searching for belief in what a tight-knit group can achieve. They came within one win, and one unfortunate Tyrese Haliburton injury, of potentially stealing last year's NBA championship.
Before the start of 2024-25, no one would have truly set the bar that high for the Pacers. Everyone knew they would be a good to very good team. Few, if any, would have believed the championship upside existed for that unit. One would imagine they confidently believed in that, though.
This is the formula Lakers fans will hope can be replicated with Luka Doncic and company.
It has been hard to ignore the contagious energy oozing from the team following the All-Star break. Not only have the Lakers been winning, a lot, but they look like they are having a ton of fun in the process. The pregame rituals, the postgame antics, etc. — Los Angeles has been buzzing.
The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to be projected as the favorites to come out of the West, and that is completely fair based on the track record. However, the Thunder were also pegged to make quick work of the Pacers, and they just barely escaped that series with a title.
The power of friendship can be as powerful as the corniest of television series would have you believe. If the Lakers have it, there is reason for fans to have cautious optimism, at absolute worst, about what can be done during the rest of this campaign.
