LeBron James said after the Los Angeles Lakers' season-ending loss in the second round of the playoffs on Monday that he doesn't know what the future holds. There is absolutely nothing left for the 41-year-old to prove, as he said himself. He's done it all.
He's won four NBA titles, four NBA Finals MVPs, four regular-season MVPS, is a 20-time All-Star (he's won All-Star MVP three times), a 20-time All-NBA selection, and a six-time All-Defensive selection. Oh, and if that weren't enough, LeBron is also the league's all-time leading scorer.

If the 2025-26 season does end up being his last, he will go down as one of the best, if not the best, to ever do it. That would've also been the case if he had retired several years ago. Everything he's done the past few seasons was a cherry on top of his long list of accomplishments.
LeBron James has nothing left to prove
He doesn't have to play a 24th season to solidify his status in the NBA history books. It's wild enough that he's still in great shape to continue playing, adding a few more bullet points to his resume, if he so chooses.
Rob Pelinka said yet again on Tuesday that the Lakers would love to have LeBron back, and he wasn't just saying that, either. The organization knows that James can still play a key role in helping them win a title next season. He's easily the best third option in the league, and as we saw the past few weeks, he is still more than capable of stepping up and taking charge when needed.
There is quite literally no other player like LeBron James, and there probably never will be. He's that special, and that's been the case since day one.
LeBron could continue to add to his legacy with Lakers
Does he need to? Absolutely not. However, as an LA fan (and a basketball fan in general), you're probably selfishly rooting for LeBron to run it back with the Lakers. It would only make sense for the GOAT to go out after winning another championship, right? Take a second to think about how iconic that would be.
He could ultimately decide to make a push at a fifth title in what could be his final season, and if so, hopefully, it will happen with Los Angeles.
If this is the end, it was a heck of a run, one that will live on forever.
