We may still be two weeks out from the regular season's tip-off, but Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has already broken the internet with his latest cryptic post on X.

In the post, James referenced his now infamous 2010 ESPN special, The Decision, as he referred to Tuesday, October 7, as the day when 'the decision of all decisions' will be made.

Naturally, this has drawn countless eyes and sparked serious speculation about the veteran's intentions with the post, as the last "decision" he made led to his exit from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Many are now wondering whether this is LeBron teasing that his ouster from the league following the 2025-26 campaign is next, a rumor that has been speculated about all summer long.

Of course, not all are convinced that this is actually him hinting at a serious announcement.

In fact, some are under the impression that this could be a cheap ploy to draw attention for a mere marketing campaign.

Fans believe Lakers star's post is for Amazon Prime Day, not retirement

Internet detectives were quick to share their uneasiness about believing James' post was him hinting at retirement. Instead, they're convinced he only wants fans to think this, so they'll tune in for the real reveal — an advertisement for Prime Day.

Amazon's annual sales event is scheduled for October 7, and, as keyboard warriors have discovered, LeBron has been featured in a number of the company's ads in the past.

It's also important to note that, following extensive offseason negotiations, Amazon managed to acquire the rights to exclusively stream NBA games via an 11-year deal with the league.

With all this in mind, having one of the biggest, if not the biggest name still associated with the sport serving as the face of this marketing campaign makes complete sense.

However, despite the sound logic, should this ultimately be the case, and James' post is, in fact, actually a teaser for an Amazon Prime Day ad, it could very well take the top spot on the CVS receipt-sized list of the All-Star's most annoying stunts.

We're talking more cringe than the Banana Boat, more embarrassing than his failed attempt to trademark "Taco Tuesday," and more of an emotional roller coaster than the original decision itself.

After a summer where Lakers fans have been sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for any semblance of news on the future of their franchise cornerstone, if this ends up being just for an Amazon ad, it may very well be argued as his most maddening off-court moment yet.
