The Los Angeles Lakers signed AK Okereke and Peter Suder to two-way contracts immediately after the 2026 NBA Draft ended. The two will pair with first-round draft pick Cameron Carr as the standouts of the franchise’s summer league squad. Rob Pelinka clearly had a type he was targeting in this class.
Suder shot 42 percent from 3-point range for Miami (OH) this season. Michael Scotto reported his two-way contract. The Lakers took a shot on another sharpshooter, but the 6’4 wing has questionable athleticism. Still, he should be a plus G League addition, even if he’s not ready for NBA minutes.
Okereke is a 6’7 wing that shot 40 percent from 3-point range in his lone season at Vanderbilt. Sham Charania reported the news of his two-way contract. The Lakers are clearly looking for wings and shooting.
Lakers quietly sign AK Okereke and Peter Suder
Los Angeles traded up to draft Cameron Carr at 24th overall. He is a plus-shooter that fits perfectly next to Luka. Getting a 6’5 wing capable of knocking down shots and catching lobs is exciting. He could be the supercharged version of Derrick Jones Jr., who thrived playing off Doncic during the Mavericks’ 2024 NBA Finals run.
The Lakers traded for a second-round draft pick only to sell to the Mavericks while the selection was on the clock. Rumors suggest they were trying to land Henri Veesaar, but the Hawks traded up to take him. That left LA with just one draft choice in 2026.
This is a crucial summer for the purple and gold. They promised Luka upgrades would be coming in the 2026 offseason when they acquired him. It is here, and the franchise has to make the most of it. Getting three plus shooters coming out of the draft is a start, but Rob Pelinka must add a difference-making center and more depth.
The Lakers are just getting started. They must fill out a summer league roster and find upgrades around Luka. Okereke and Suder figure to play key roles in Vegas, but the Lakers need a creator to set up their wings. With Austin Reaves signing a max contract, LA has their star duo. It is about putting the right pieces around them if they want to be a serious title contender.
The Los Angeles Lakers should be active on the trade market and in free agency. Expect a few more undrafted signings and a marquee one. Rob Pelinka needs to trade for a center, keep upgrading on the wings, and build out LA’s depth. It is easier said than done, but the Lakers have been planning for his moment for years. They can’t afford to let it go by without significant action, so stay tuned.
