The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat 134-126 on the second night of a back-to-back behind a gigantic and historic performance from Luka Doncic. In his first full season in LA, Doncic broke the team’s record for 3-pointers made on a night where he dropped 60 points. It was previously held by D’Angelo Russell when he made 226 in 2024, and Luka broke it with 12 games remaining. It was another monster night from number 77.

Luka made 18 of 30 shooting from the field in Miami, including hitting nine 3-pointers. He entered Thursday’s game three behind D-Lo for the franchise record, but it did not take The Don long to blow past it. Doncic is shooting 40 percent from long range since the calendar flipped to 2026, and the Lakers have won 11 of 12 as their superstar has fully locked in.

The 27-year-old is just getting started in LA. Fans have seen him unleashing his inner Kobe Bryant over this hot stretch. Doncic just did something the Lakers’ GOAT never did, and he’s just getting started.

Luka Doncic just broke the Lakers’ record for 3-pointers made in a season

Doncic finished with 60 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and five steals on Thursday night in Miami. It was even more impressive as the Lakers were on the second night of a back-to-back, where they arrived in South Beach at 5 am ET for an 8 pm ET game. Luka’s lack of rest didn’t show as he was all but unstoppable.

It was the third-highest scoring night of Luka's career. His best mark is 73 points. He didn't get there on Thursday night, but it was still a masterpiece.

Lakers fans are watching the six-time All-Star recreate a blueprint he used in Dallas to help the Mavericks reach the NBA Finals. Luka locked in his shooting and defense as his team won 16 of the final 17 regular season games the superstar played in during the 2024 season. The Mavs rode that momentum to winning the Western Conference.

The Lakers have won eight straight, but this may have been their most impressive. In the last six contests, LA has secured three crucial playoff seeding tiebreakers. The lack of rest, coupled with the high stakes in recent games, had everyone thinking this would be a schedule loss, but Luka had other ideas.

Doncic is playing out of his mind right now, so Lakers fans are not shocked he broke a franchise record. It is never easy to top any record in their storied history, but Luka is just getting started. He leads the NBA in scoring and is playing the best basketball of his career. Doncic will keep breaking records and making the Lakers a serious title threat for years to come.

Everybody wrote off the Los Angeles Lakers, but that looks foolish now. The three stars are finally healthy and meshing. Luka Doncic is clearly the alpha and is making his case for being the best player in the world. The purple and gold are red hot, and no team is eager to face them right now. Luka is that dude, and the best is yet to come.
