5 Lakers who benefit the most from the arrival of rookie Dalton Knecht
Austin Reaves
Austin Reaves is a high-level shot creator and a more than adequate jump shooter. For as capable as he is of knocking down the three-point shot, however, he's not yet the marksman that the Lakers need along the wings—which is easily forgiven since he's a player who can create for them.
With the addition of Dalton Knecht, Reaves can now place a greater emphasis on his shot creating with a true marksman working alongside him.
Reaves is coming off of a season in which he posted career-best averages across the board. He finished with marks of 15.9 points, 5.5 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 0.8 steals, and 1.9 three-point field goals per game, with an efficient slash line of .486/.367/.853.
The Lakers will likely trust Reaves to improve his shooting and defense, but his primary strength is his isolation offense—and that's exactly why Knecht works so well alongside him.
Reaves has a tight handle that he utilizes to break down every caliber of defender en route to the rim. He's also a skilled and willing passer who's constantly attempting to find the open man, which Knecht could step in and become from the opening tip.
JJ Redick is already working with Knecht on his off-ball movement, and Reaves projects to benefit immensely from having a sharpshooter to find coming off of screens.
