The Los Angeles Lakers are going to have to play without LeBron James (out, ankle) on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Clippers, which means someone is going to have to step up to upset the Los Angeles Clippers.

Guard D’Angelo Russell has been great since re-entering the starting lineup, and he’s one of my favorite prop picks for this matchup.

Plus, there is a first quarter angle to take advantage of – especially with James not in the lineup.

Lakers vs. Clippers best NBA prop bets

  • D’Angelo Russell OVER 19.5 points
  • Norman Powell OVER 11.5 points
  • Los Angeles Clippers 1Q Spread -3 vs. Los Angeles Lakers

D’Angelo Russell OVER 19.5 points

Russell is averaging 27.2 points per game since returning to the starting lineup (five games), and he’s cleared 19.5 points in four of those five games.

On the season, Russell is averaging 16.3 points per game, shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from 3-point range. He’s done that taking just 12.8 shots per game, the second-lowest mark of his career.

With James out, there should be several more shots to go around for Russell, who has taken 20 or more shots in three of his last five. In the last game James missed, Russell dropped 39 against Utah.

Norman Powell OVER 11.5 points

Norman Powell has scored 12 or more points in nine of his last 11 games, pushing his season average to 13.4 points per game in the process.

Yet, he’s set at 11.5 points in this matchup with the Lakers. Powell does come off the bench, but he sees a solid role, attempting 10.0 shots and 5.2 3-pointers per game over this 11-game stretch.

Powell has scored 14 and 12 points in his two meetings with the Lakers, and he’s scored at least 12 points in 28 of 41 games this season. He’s a must-bet for me at this number.

Los Angeles Clippers 1Q Spread -3 vs. Los Angeles Lakers

The Clippers are one of the better first-quarter teams in the NBA this season, ranking seventh in the NBA in net rating, and the Lakers know that this may be the Lakers’ biggest Achilles heel.

The Lakers are 29th in the league in first-quarter net rating, and now they’re losing LeBron’s production early in the game since he’s out tonight.

I have a hard time backing the Lakers early, as they’ll need to outplay the Clippers’ starting lineup that has been extremely successful as of late. Los Angeles’ five-man lineup featuring Paul George, Terance Mann, Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, and Mason Plumlee has an offensive rating of 140.0 this season.

I’ll trust the Clippers to get off to a hot start on Tuesday.
