The Trade
The trade proposed by Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report would see the Los Angeles Lakers part with four players. It's a hefty price to pay, but the return would enable the Lakers to move forward with both Grant and a key replacement on the roster.
With the Orlando Magic looped in, the Lakers would add scoring guard Cole Anthony alongside Grant while parting with Jalen Hood-Schifino, D'Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Gabe Vincent.
Added to the trade package was Orlando guard Jett Howard, who was selected at No. 11 overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. As such, in the event that this trade went through, it would mean that the Magic view Russell as a franchise building block and not just a one-year rental.
Hood-Schifino would give Orlando another young piece to develop, while the two second-round draft picks provide quality on the draft asset front.
Portland, meanwhile, adds another young guard to its roster, as well as two proven defenders. Vanderbilt and Vincent struggled to remain healthy last season, but the same could be said for Grant—and they get paid less combined than Grant makes on his own.
Throw in the fact that Portland would get the two first-round draft picks that it's looking for, and this looks like a solid trade on paper.
