Pro: Defensive Capabilities

The Los Angeles Lakers expressing interest in Jerami Grant likely comes with the expectation that he'll return to the level of defensive proficiency that previously got him paid. Grant is still a solid defender, but it was during his time with the Denver Nuggets that he emerged as a borderline lockdown specialist.

It's fair to question if Grant can still defend at that level, but the defensive capabilities are nothing if not intriguing.

At 6'7" and 210 pounds with a near 7'3" wingspan, Grant has the height and length to defend almost every position on the court. He's a bit too thin to take on traditional centers, but his mere presence on the floor can act as a deterrent alongside Anthony Davis.

Whether Grant is lining up at the 3 or the 4, his length and history of high-level defensive play could help the Lakers address a significant flaw.

This past season, the Lakers ranked No. 17 in the NBA in defensive rating. A key reason for the team's defensive woes was the inability to run opponents off of the three-point line, as seen in the fact that Los Angeles finished No. 28 in three-point field goals allowed.

With Grant playing alongside Davis, the Lakers could finally roll out a lineup that attempts to address a flaw they must fix if they hope to contend.
