1. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

The Lakers lack 3-and-D wings, which is why they struggle to space the floor and defend on the perimeter. They had multiple options on their 2020 championship team, including KCP. He arrived as a free agent in 2017 and was a key role player in Los Angeles until the 2021 trade that brought in Westbrook. That deal still haunts the Lakers, but KCP was traded to Denver the following year and won a second ring with the Nuggets.

The 6’5 wing has made over 40 percent of his 3-point attempts since 2020 and impacts that game on both ends. KCP is comfortable playing off the ball and sinking open shots. The Lakers desperately need his shooting and defense to get back into title contention.

Caldwell-Pope has a $15.4 million player option for next season. He likely decline it and sign a long-term deal in free agency. The Lakers will not have the money to land him unless they can duck below the first tax apron. They desperately need him but do not expect to see him wearing purple and gold anytime soon.

The Los Angeles Lakers will look to upgrade their roster in free agency. They may target a mix of players with ties to LeBron and those eager to play in Hollywood next to King James. There will be interest, but is it enough to make the Lakers contenders? Stay tuned to find out.
