Way-too-early trade deadline targets if Lakers stumble in 2024-25

The Los Angeles Lakers hope to contend. But what if they can't? Who might they look at ahead of the 2025 trade deadline to salvage the season?

Bruce Brown, Toronto Raptors

A pending free agent whose days seem to be numbered with the Toronto Raptors, Bruce Brown is a proven postseason player who could fill a significant Los Angeles Lakers void. A committed and versatile defender who can score in bunches when he gets hot, Brown is what Gabe Vincent was supposed to be.

If Vincent struggles in 2024-25, it would behoove the Lakers to consider a move for Brown—although it ideally wouldn't cost a first-round draft pick.

Brown was on the radar already, but his profile improved when he helped the Denver Nuggets win the 2022-23 NBA championship. He thrived as a defensive impact player and turned heads by stepping up as a scorer in crucial moments.

Unfortunately, Brown's 2023-24 season was impacted by injuries and a trade, with neither team he played for seemingly knowing how to use him.

As a point-of-attack defender, Brown would fit right in with JJ Redick and the Lakers. He'd also give the team a proven commodity as far as postseason play is concerned—a need for Los Angeles based on how recent playoff appearances have worked out.

Brown is more of a roster enhancer than a player who would change everything for the Lakers, but that doesn't make him any less appealing as a trade target.
