The city of Los Angeles just added one of the biggest names in its respective sport on Monday. Sound familiar? It should. Myles Garrett joins an unbelievable list of superstars who have relocated to the major sports hub in recent years.
Adam Schefter reported: "The [Cleveland] Browns are finalizing a trade that will send two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams. ... Rams are expected to send Pro-Bowl edge Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick and other draft-pick compensation."
The shock of such a seismic blockbuster is something Los Angeles Lakers fans know well. Today, it was Garrett. In February of 2025, it was Luka Doncic.
Myles Garrett trade immediately invites a callback to the Luka Doncic trade
It was not all that long ago that Los Angeles sports fans, and pretty much basketball fans everywhere, had their jaws on the floor with Shams Charania breaking the news of Doncic being on his way to Hollywood. The similarities are there.
Garrett is undoubtedly one of the brightest superstars in the NFL. Doncic was, and still is, one of the best at his craft in the NBA. Both magically found their way to the spotlight of Los Angeles.
The circumstances are not exactly one-to-one. Garrett had reason to be dealt away from the torturous environment provided by the Browns franchise. There was less of that for the Dallas Mavericks, who were fairly fresh off an NBA Finals appearance that was led by Doncic.
In each case, though, the city of Los Angeles can celebrate the trade all the same.
The Rams, who were just barely ousted by the Seattle Seahawks in last year's NFL Playoffs, are suddenly making their push to leapfrog the defending Super Bowl champions ahead of the new campaign. The Lakers, meanwhile, revived their future by adding a player who should always have his name in best player in the world conversations.
It doesn't just end at trades, right Shohei Ohtani?
Los Angeles Dodgers fans can throw themselves into the mix of teams in the city who know what it is like to bring in one of the premier superstars in their sport. After flirting with a few alternatives, Shohei Ohtani joined the Dodgers and immediately catapulted their franchise back to the top.
Unlike where Garrett falls among NFL history or Doncic's place in NBA history, Ohtani has a real claim to just flat-out being the best player to ever suit up in the MLB. His back-to-back World Series wins in Los Angeles only added to his case.
If you are multi-sport fan based out of LA and happen to find yourself rooting for all three of these teams, life must be pretty spectacular of late. Whether it be Garrett, Doncic, or Ohtani, Los Angeles fans are rarely short on the type of blockbusters worthy of Hollywood.
