It was looking rough on Sunday. The Los Angeles Lakers went down big against the Utah Jazz in the first quarter. It looked like they could be heading toward a blowout victory in favor of the Jazz. But Luka Doncic took over. He was incredible. It was a perfect reminder that, no matter what, if Doncic is on the court, the Lakers will have a chance to win the game.

Doncic was the best player on the court by a mile. He scored 52 points. Alongside Austin Reaves, the Lakers came all the way back to win the game. He was the driving force of the comeback. Without him, the Lakers would have had no chance. He always gives them a shot to win the game – at virtually any point in time.

For as long as Doncic is on the Lakers, they are going to have a chance to win games. No matter when in the season those games are.

The Jazz jumped out to an early lead. At the end of the first quarter, Lauri Markkanen nailed a buzzer-beating three. It put the Jazz up 47-29 heading into the second quarter.

But then, Doncic and the Lakers immediately got to work. They didn’t waste any time. In the second quarter, the Lakers stormed all the way back to make it a game again.

It was actually Reaves who led the comeback in the second quarter. He scored 15 points, helping the Lakers win the quarter 45-24. That’s how they climbed all the way back into the game.

Doncic was tasked with keeping LA in the game in the first quarter. Without his 17 first-quarter points, the Lakers would have been in an even worse position heading into the rest of the game.

But the Lakers still needed to win the game. They still had to finish off the comeback. The job was only half finished, and LA needed Doncic in order to complete the mission.

He poured in 27 second-half points. Even when the game was close late in the fourth, the Lakers felt good because they had Doncic on their side. It was everything they could have asked for.

Reaves did a great job helping the Lakers get back in the game in the second quarter. But without Doncic – the shot-making that comes with Doncic – they would not have won.

Doncic finished the game with 52 points, eight rebounds, 10 assists, and two steals while shooting 17-of-30 from the field and 8-of-18 from beyond the three-point arc.

He’s the type of player who can win a game by himself at any given moment. With Reaves right next to him, that’s exactly what Doncic did on Sunday. And that’s what he can do for the Lakers moving forward.
