Kobe Bryant Set to Play in Puerto Rico

It is with great hesitation that I write yet another post about Kobe Bryant going to play somewhere other than in the NBA this year. We’ve been down this path too many times already. Besiktas, Virtus Bologna, barnstorming China, the only thing missing was a report of Bryant balling on the Moon. That would be about as probable as KB24 playing with any of the other aforementioned teams/countries.

But this time it appears to be real. Partly because the dude that shot down every previous KB overseas report, Yahoo!’s Adrian Wojnarowksi, confirms this one. Also because this time it involves a lot of other big time talent.

As speculated for more than a week now, Kobe will join the likes of LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade on a worldwide exhibition tour. The first stop will be this Sunday in Puerto Rico.

Now it should be noted that as of yesterday Bryant’s deal was being help up. Apparently that has been resolved. At least it has until we get another report tomorrow.

Word is the players involved could collect up to $1-million for their participation. Not exactly an NBA check but funds none the less.

This also doesn’t bode well as the news comes on the heels of the rumors that David Stern is prepared to chop another two weeks off the schedule.

Still, until I see Kobe in San Juan I won’t believe it.
