Game Grades: Lakers Stumble Down Stretch Against Hornets

MVP: It’s hard to not give this to Jeremy Lin, and that is the recipient of the award, but his turnovers down the stretch are frustrating. Nonetheless, he was the catalyst of this team for most of the night and he and Clarkson are developing a nice flow offensively together.

LVP: Wayne Ellington, who finished with a below average 2-8 from the field for just seven points and had three turnovers. Add in the fact he had just one rebounds and nothing else and that’s not what you want out of your starting shooting guard, especially with him playing 37 minutes.

Stat of the Night: 39-31. The Lakers four big men – Jordan Hill, Carlos Boozer, Ed Davis, and Robert Sacre – were out-scored by three Hornets big men – Cody Zeller, Al Jefferson, and Marvin Williams. For a team that hangs it’s hat on it’s depth in the front court, that’s an unacceptable stat.

The Starters

D-.  <strong> 37 min, 2-8 FG, 1-2 3P, 2-2 FT, 7 PTS, 1 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 0 BLK, 3 TO</strong><p>On a contender, Ellington is a sixth man at best, but a role player. Because of that, it’s hard to blame him for off nights like this.</p>. SG. Los Angeles Lakers. WAYNE ELLINGTON

<strong> 25 min, 5-8 FG, 5-6 FT, 15 PTS, 11 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 0 BLK, 0 TO</strong><p>Offensively, Boozer was solid tonight. Defensively, Cody Zeller got the best of him multiple times, which is depressing.</p>. PF. Los Angeles Lakers. CARLOS BOOZER. B-

Los Angeles Lakers. JORDAN CLARKSON. B-.  <strong> 33 min, 9-19 FG, 1-7 3P, 0-0 FT, 19 PTS, 1 REB, 4 AST, 1 STL, 0 BLK, 0 TO</strong><p>If not for a mediocre shooting night, I might have given <strong><a href=. PG

C. <strong>22 min, 1-6 FG, 1-3 3P, 4-4 FT, 7 PTS, 4 REB, 4 AST, 1 STL, 0 BLK, 1 TO</strong><p>The <strong><a href=. PF. Los Angeles Lakers. RYAN KELLY

<strong>22 min, 2-6 FG, 2-2 FT, 6 PTS, 5 REB, 0 AST, 1 STL, 1 BLK, 0 TO</strong><p>And the Sacre starting subplot probably tops it.</p>. C. Los Angeles Lakers. ROBERT SACRE. D-

The Bench

PF. Los Angeles Lakers. ED DAVIS. C-. <strong>23 min, 2-3 FG, 2-3 FT, 6 PTS, 2 REB, 2 AST, 0 STL, 0 BLK, 2 TO</strong><p>Almost invisible night from Davis tonight, which shows you he still has room to grow.</p>

JORDAN HILL. C+. <strong>23 min, 5-13 FG, 0-0 FT, 10 PTS, 6 REB, 2 AST, 0 STL, 1 BLK, 0 TO</strong><p>I tweeted it during the game, but Hill is quite the team player. He played well up to the trade deadline to boost his trade value, then has been tank-tastic post trade deadline.</p>. C. Los Angeles Lakers

A.  <strong>30 min, 9-16 FG, 3-4 3P, 2-2 FT, 23 PTS, 6 REB, 8 AST, 2 STL, 1 BLK, 3 TO</strong><p>Where has pre-All-Star break Jeremy Lin gone? Not that I want him back, but this is night and day from earlier this year.</p>. PG. Los Angeles Lakers. JEREMY LIN

C. <strong>25 min, 4-7 FG, 0-1 3P, 2-2 FT, 10 PTS, 5 REB, 3 AST, 1 STL, 1 BLK, 2 TO</strong><p>23 games and counting.</p>. SF. Los Angeles Lakers. WESLEY JOHNSON
