Lakers: 5 Reasons Why Giving Byron Scott Credit for Success is Wrong

The Lakers are trending in the right direction, but Byron Scott doesn’t deserve credit for the turnaround

Things are looking up for the Los Angeles Lakers as of late in a way that many fans probably didn’t think was possible at various points throughout the 2015-16 NBA season. After going 11-49 through the end of February, the Lakers are 3-3 in the month of March (including a shocking upset of the Golden State Warriors) with the young players like D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, and Julius Randle all stepping up and playing a major role in the recent success.

However, one thing that has popped up over this recent runs is fans or analysts around the Internet saying that head coach Byron Scott deserves credit for this recent success. There have been those crediting his tough love approach with the young players and others praising the move to re-insert Russell back into the starting lineup after the All-Star break.

Yet giving Byron Scott credit for this recent flurry of success and miniature turnaround is just patently wrong.

While Scott may have had a hand in helping institute a more successful offense in recent weeks, giving him the credit for the recent play of the Lakers is completely nonsensical. Not only does it make many fans who have been calling for his head most of the season and are now changing their tune look silly, but praising Byron for the team’s recent play ignores several key aspects of the job that he’s done on the season as a whole.

Those are the types of things we’re going to look at. These are the five reasons why Scott is undeserving of the credit for the recent success of the Lakers.
