Rumored for over a week now, yesterday representatives from Lakers attended a private workout held by Gilbert Arenas. Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Arenas made a “positive impression” but there is nothing that indicates the Lakers will pursue the free agent guard as of now.
Badly in need of getting something, anything from the point guard position has put the Lake Show into desperation mode. No need to argue that point. Anybody that has watched the team plays knows this and giving consideration to pursuing Arenas drives that very point home.
We all know that once upon a time Arenas was a lethal scorer. The Van Nuys native dropped a cool 60 in Staples back in the day so the Lakers are very familiar with his prowess.
But that was a long time ago. Recently Arenas has been known more for his stance on guns in the work place among many other off court issues.
More importantly, the last time we saw Gil in action with the Orlando Magic he was nothing close to being an explosive scorer.
Kobe Bryant is said to have reached out to Arenas recently. Taking a page from Bryant’s book on rehab, Arenas underwent a similar procedure on his knee during the offseason. Of course Kobe flew all the way to Germany for the then experimental procedure.
No matter the current condition Arenas is in it is pretty clear that he would be a gamble to throw into the mix. Despite L.A.’s lack of point guard production, Arenas does nothing to help from a defensive standpoint. Opposing guards would still be having field days against the Lakers. About the only thing that would change is the drama that Arenas brings.
