4. Ed Davis
When Davis, a former UNC standout, came to the Lakers on the veterans minimum, more than a few people were surprised. Considering his per 36 minute stats put him at 13.4 points and 9.8 rebounds, nabbing him for under a million dollars is a big-time bargain.
In what will likely be a post-heavy offense under Byron Scott, and Davis could make a name for himself. Even more, he’ll be relied on defensively as a rim protector with a majority of minutes coming at the center position.
While he has a player option next season, it is still for just the veteran’s minimum, which shouldn’t shy teams away from bringing him in. It won’t be hard for the Lakers to find a match to take on his low salary, and much like the Steve Blake trade brought in some prospects, this trade could do something similar.
