With depth at the small forward position still an issue this upcoming season, the Lakers may be looking to sign one of the biggest names left on the market. According to sources, Michael Beasley worked out for the second time for the Lakers.
"I’m told that Michael Beasley had a second workout with the Los Angeles Lakers today. We’ll see if the Lakers sign him.– Alex Kennedy"
Beasley first worked out for the Lakers a handful of weeks ago, but the Lakers appear to be serious about signing him if they’ve brought him in a second time.
As is, the Lakers starting small forward position will be occupied by either Xavier Henry, Wesley Johnson, or Nick Young. The former two are more natural small forwards, while the latter is the most talented of the trio.
It’s natural the Lakers are looking for an upgrade at the position. While the team could only offer Beasley a minimum contract, he likely won’t be getting more money elsewhere. Similar to Young last year, Beasley could come in on a one-year minimum and prove he’s worth more money to other teams.
However, there still runs the risk of Beasley’s off-the-court problems. He’s had numerous run-ins with cops involving marijuana possession, while also being pulled over for speeding and has also once checked into a rehab center. In fact, his maturity issues is what has kept the Miami Heat from resigning him.
Still, it’s hard to argue against signing Beasley, given the Lakers current situation. Let us know down below if you think Beasley is worth the risk!
