Nick Young Will Help Make This Season Tolerable
It feels like Nick Young has been out forever. This year has been disastrous for the Lakers, even before the regular season started. Picking up where last year left off, the Lakers have had some very unfortunate injuries. Nick Young tore a ligament in his thumb in practice. Steve Nash was ruled out for the year before the season started. We have presumably seen the last of the future hall of famer. Julius Randle broke his leg after one game and is probably going to miss the whole year, proving that the Lakers have been cursed for the past few seasons.
Now, I am not saying that Young will come in and magically save the Lakers and their massive amounts of problems. Not even LeBron James can make this team into a playoff team. However, Young can bring something we have yet to see from this Lakers squad: entertainment.
This is going to be a miserable season for Lakers fans, as this might be the absolute worst team in franchise history. Byron Scott‘s outdated system has done this team no favors, as the Lakers have been demolished in almost every game to start the year. The team is very undersized and simply does not play any defense. The Lakers don’t have very many players who can create their own shots, and the team has been terrible, as expected. Worse than that, the team has been flat out boring. Even last season, when the Lakers were in the midst of a bad 27 win season, the team was a lot more entertaining than what we are seeing night in and night out.

Even Kobe Bryant hasn’t been playing well, as he has looked old. He definitely is not his usual self, and one has to wonder if Bryant is finally starting to lose that battle with Father Time. Fans aren’t getting the proper entertainment value they normally would out of watching the Lakers.
Enter Nick Young. Swaggy P is not the Lakers best player, not by a long shot. But he is clearly the team’s most energetic player. His energy is infectious to his teammates and the home crowd. Although he does make more than a few boneheaded decisions, Young’s play was a big reason why I didn’t miss a single game last season; that team was fun to watch when they were clicking.
There is nothing short of a miracle that will make this particular team good. We are a sinking ship that is sinking at an astronomical rate. That isn’t a bad thing, because the Lakers desperately need to get back the first rounder they traded to Phoenix for Nash a few years ago. That pick is top 5 protected and the team is well on their way to being a top 5 lottery team. This is what the Lakers need, so that when Randle comes back next year, the team has a foundation to build upon. This is going to be a long season.
The least we can do is get some entertainment value out of this season. And who is better to provide that than Swaggy P?
