Now let’s move on to some higher profile trades. Last week, it was revealed that the Cavaliers had inquired about Robert Sacre during the summer and that trade talks might be revived with the loss of Anderson Varejao in Cleveland. Despite how bizarre the rumor seems, the Cavs need a big man, but there’s a better fit for them on the roster than Sacre.

Ed Davis has been as pleasant a surprise as any in the league this year. After coming to LA for the veteran’s minimum, Davis quickly played his way into the starting lineup. He’s a solid defensive center and a machine on the boards and makes perfect sense for the Cavaliers. He could step in and provide rim protection, letting Kevin Love roam around the perimeter without fear of the Cavs being exploited at the rim.
What the Lakers may be asking for in return, though, is up for debate. While a future first-round pick would be ideal, it’s hard to imagine Davis netting the Lakers such a return. Instead, they could set their eyes upon Dion Waiters, who has fallen out of favor with the Cavs. He hasn’t meshed well for most of his time in Cleveland and a change of scenery would do him wonders. Wayne Ellington could step into Cleveland and provide a better fit as a floor spacer while Ronnie Price’s contract is non-guaranteed and he can be waived once traded.
