The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t had much luck these last few years. They have been decimated by injuries and nobody is safe. Julius Randle only played one game this season and Kobe Bryant hasn’t been able to stay healthy since tearing his achilles in April, 2013.

This season, head coach Byron Scott implemented a minute restriction and would often rest Bryant to keep his body fresh. Like some of his previous injuries, this happened out of nowhere. Bryant went up for two hand jam, but he came down with much more.

Bryant had torn his rotator cuff in his right shoulder, officially ending his season. Bryant opted for surgery to start the road to recovery and hopefully be ready for next season. According to Bill Oram of the OC Register, he went underwent successful shoulder surgery today:

Unfortunately, Bryant will return much later than originally expected. Nine months is a long time and once again Bryant will have to go through a grueling rehab to his body ready for the NBA season. Technically Bryant should be ready for the season opener, but that’s if everything goes as scheduled.

Although many Laker fans want to avoid the subject, Bryant is losing the battle to Father Time. These last three seasons have been a disappointment and Bryant could not go out like that. It is possible Bryant can come back and be effective, but at his age, will another injury get in the way of a story book ending?

We have to believe Bryant will go out swinging, but another season ending injury could be the end of an illustrious career.
