The Lakers take on a familiar foe in Pau Gasol tonight when the Chicago Bulls visit the Staples Center. Gasol is having a breakout season with the Bulls, a painful reminder of how good Gasol was for the Lakers. The Bulls are an title contender and the Lakers are not, which will be evident when they both take the floor tonight.

Unfortunately, the Lakers will have to find a way to stay competitive without one of their key plays. According to Serena Winters of Lakers Nation, Nick Young will not play tonight because of a sprained ankle:

The Lakers will be facing one of the toughest defensive teams in the NBA and with no Young or Kobe Bryant, they will have a hard time scoring the rock. The Bulls just beat the Warriors on the road and they come into Staples Center with a lot of momentum.

Even with Young in the lineup, the Bulls are just the superior team and it seems the Lakers are headed to their 10th consecutive loss. Not the best time to be a Laker fan, but by losing the Lakers are positioning themselves to keep their top 5 pick. The Knicks and 76ers have been winning as of late, so the Lakers have a realistic shot at ending with the worst record in the NBA.

A lot of Laker fans don’t want to hear that, but this season is done and it’s time to think about the future.
