Why not give the official captaincy of this Tank to the man who has been pulling the strings all along? Byron Scott got the Lakers to get in shape and play hard during the season, but none of that has translated into a consistent winning culture.

Yes, he has had to deal with a number of injuries that have caused him to change his philosophy multiple times, but some of it may have been his own doing. There was nothing he could do about Steve Nash or Julius Randle, but he did a great job of mismanaging Bryant’s minutes, causing Kobe to get gassed about twenty games into the season, which inadvertently caused Bryant’s body to break down in the form of a torn rotator cuff.

Then came the decision to take away Jeremy Lin’s aggressiveness by pleading with Lin to distribute the ball rather than attack the basket, a decision that Lin has been struggling with since he was permanently demoted to the bench.

Then there were the questionable lineup decisions. He failed to give young Jordan Clarkson minutes even when he was a far superior option than Price. He also inexplicably moved power forward Ryan Kelly to the small forward position where he has looked lost and overwhelmed at times, going against much faster players than himself constantly. And now he is consistently starting Robert Sacre who, as mentioned before, has no business in a starting rotation anywhere in the NBA.

Scott is the perfect captain for this rolling tank that we call the 2014-15 Lakers season. He gets the team to play hard, and yet they nearly always come up with a loss anyways.  Sometimes, Scott is to blame, like not fouling when ahead in a close game.  It is the perfect tank situation.

Keep on “coaching” them up, Scott. The Lakers will get that top pick before you know it.
