1. Acquiring Talent

The Lakers are devoid of any talent right now, for the most part. When Nick Young is considered your best player, it’s a sad state of affairs (sorry Swaggy P). The Lakers have long placed their hopes of landing a talented player in free agency with their “swing for the fences” approach.

In this scenario, they are no longer bidding against teams and are guaranteed the talent. At the end of the day, while maybe landing a player like Reggie Jackson this summer versus Dragic might be nice, but we aren’t guaranteed either of them. For the Lakers, if the opportunity presents itself to acquire talent, the Lakers have to jump on it.

Dragic could step in and improve the Lakers from the get-go. That’s not something you can pass up in hopes of tanking the season and possibly landing him in free agency. As has been pointed out on Twitter, there are still a lot of variables with the Lakers tanking hopes, which is the main argument against acquiring Dragic. Turning down a known commodity for the hope of a unknown commodity is a big risk.
