Bryant has been criticized of being a ball-hog for most of his career. Five championships later, those critics have quieted down a bit, but they still exist. One player that Bryant can relate with is Russell Westbrook.
Although Westbrook is the MVP for the second half of the season, some people point to the amount of shots that he takes in order to reach his fantastic stats. After dropping 54 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists in a loss to the Indiana Pacers, he was still asked about his shot selection.
This morning, Bryant decided to weigh in on the topic and used a meme to get his point across on social media:
Bryant is used to this type of reaction from the media, he had a stretch where the Lakers needed him to score more than usual in order to give the team a chance to win. Westbrook is going through a similar situation, but the media chooses to focus on the number of field goal attempts.
With no Kevin Durant or Serge Ibaka, only Westbrook is left to carry the load offensively. Is he taking a lot of shots? Yes he is, but this is the only way for the Thunder to remain competitive in the playoff race.
Westbrook has been remarkable since the All-Star break, racking up triple-doubles with ease on a nightly basis, which show that scoring is not the only thing that Westbrook is doing right now.
