The Lakers have been very lucky for the last 19 years. Kobe Bryant has spoiled the city of Los Angeles and will be missed when he retires from the game, but at the end of the day, it’s just a game. Life is more important and at times we can forget that.

A high school senior in Texas passed away in a car accident on Sunday April 26th. Vincent Ireland was only 17 years old and he was a big fan of the Black Mamba. Ireland was a very vocal Kobe fan and would consistently talk about his favorite player.
One of Ireland’s friends was determined to reach Bryant and he took to twitter to try and get Bryant’s attention:
everyone RT to get @kobebryant to sign it for Vincent #RIPVincent pic.twitter.com/hTxppq5l5g

Social media can be a scary place and it usually gets athletes in trouble, but sometimes it’s put to good use. In this case, this community of people used twitter to try and reach one of the most followed person on twitter.
The tweet was retweeted over 600 times and it got Bryant’s attention. This is was Bryant’s response on twitter:
Beyond heart breaking to lose those we love and care for. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all #RIPVincent

Absolutely. I will handle it #RIPVincent https://t.co/nWuH2TrQNu

Bryant has no connection to Ireland, but this was simply an amazing gesture. Life is short and sometimes our loved ones leaves us way too soon. Ireland was only 17 years old and his family and friends must be devastated.
An autographed jersey is more than just memorabilia, in this case it’s something much more. For a family that is grieving, hopefully Kobe’s gesture can bring some joy.
