So much for a nice, quiet Sunday afternoon. Between signings and other rumors, the Lakers brass must not have been watching today’s exciting Women’s World Cup final (Congrats, girls!).

The organization has tended to be fairly active on Fourth of July weekends, dating back to Steve Nash’s acquisition in 2012, though let’s try not to remember that. This time, the fireworks were set off early with the Lakers trading for Roy Hibbert. Today, we found out about the accompanying moves to make everything work.

Then, Ramona Shelburne joined the fun.

The moves make sense. After signing Lou Williams, Nick Young becomes redundant. With the Lakers’ collection of power forwards and Ryan Kelly’s inability to play small forward, he becomes expendable. The unfortunate thing here, is that the Lakers are selling low on both players.

They have Byron Scott to blame for that.

Kelly thrived as a stretch four with Mike D’Antoni and Young turned himself into a really useful role player. Both players saw distinct and noticeable drop offs last season as Scott tried to force square pegs into round holes.

It would’ve been nice if the Lakers could expect some kind of asset as they could have a year ago versus now, when they have to beg for another team to take their corpses off their hands.
