Today is October 21, 2015, and at 4:29PM, it will be the precise time that Doc Brown traveled to in the 1980’s classic film, Back to the Future Part II.
One of the movie’s predictions was that the Chicago Cubs would win the World Series and that prediction is still in tact so who knows?
Though the Lakers weren’t mentioned in that movie, here’s a ride down memory lane, to a better time.
It seems like just yesterday that the Los Angeles Lakers were perennial championship contenders, but the wheels have since fell off since 2010.
This year serves as a new beginning for the entire franchise, and more importantly, as a chance for the Lakers to finally fully embrace the future.
After attending Monday night’s preseason game against the Portland Trailblazers, one thing became ever apparent: the Lakers are a franchise that lives in the past.
Though this conclusion came in regards to Los Angeles’ pregame montage, which included great Lakers’ moments stemming all the way back to the Jerry West days and the Showtime Era Lakers, it applies to so much more.

It was not even until recently that the Lakers fully embraced the usage of modern analytics, something that has grown to be a staple on nearly every NBA team.
That said, the Lakers are now in a perfect position to right their ship and begin preparing for a better tomorrow.
While title aspirations may seem far fetched for this current Lakers’ team, depending on what route the front office decides to take, down time could be drastically reduced.
Don’t be confused, the past is an excellent resource to help prepare for the future, but it should not be something that is dwelled upon. That is to say, just because you have won titles in the past, does not make you entitled to future championships.
Here’s to hoping that the Los Angeles Lakers’ front office fully realizes this.
