After losing to the Magic, the 1-7 Lakers travel to Texas to face the Dallas Mavericks.
The Lakers have been off to a very rough start, opening the season 1-7, dead last in the West. The primary source of concern has been their defense, and with Kobe Bryant potentially being out, it would be nice to see Anthony Brown get some playing time tonight. As a rangy wing defender, he could have a positive impact on the Lakers defense.
With the Lakers playing another road game the game will start a little earlier than normal. Airing at 5:30PM Pacific time, the game will be a showdown between two teams with aging superstars, if Kobe Bryant is able to play. The Lakers will have their hands full trying to slow down Dirk Nowitzki and Wesley Matthews, although the Lakers seem to have their hands full trying to stop anyone nowadays, allowing Shabazz Napier to score a career high 22 points on Wednesday.
Fans can also look forward to a face-off between D’Angelo Russell and Deron Williams, as D’Angelo will be tested by the former star. Russell has struggled in his first eight games, showing only flashes of his immense potential, but is looking to turn things around in this battle with Williams and the Mavs.
Something else to watch is how Julius Randle fares against Dirk Nowitzki. In his first career game against the Mavs earlier this year, he put forth his best effort in scoring 22 points and reeling in 15 rebounds. While Dirk is getting up there in years, he is still plenty effective. So far this year he has averaged 18.9 points and 7.5 rebounds leading the Mavs in scoring and ranking second in rebounds.
