Lakers: Kobe Bryant Happy To Hear He Finally Shot 50 Percent (Video)
Kobe Bryant shot 50 percent for the first time this season on Monday and was happy to hear about it
Outside of his impending retirement, the biggest story with Kobe Bryant during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2015-16 season has been the fact that he’s shooting horribly inefficiently. His shot-selection has been abysmal for most of the year and he hasn’t been knocking down some of the tough jumpers he’s made over his career.
However, Kobe had his most efficient shooting night of the year on Monday night in a loss against the Toronto Raptors, going 8-16 from the field. In fact, it was the first time all season that Bryant has shot 50 percent from the floor.
While talking to the media after the game, a member of the press talking to Bryant brought up the fact that he had finally shot 50 percent from the floor and Kobe was legitimately thrilled to hear the news:
The change in Kobe’s expression is just fantastic. He goes from stoic to “oh man, that’s the best news I’ve heard in the past decade” in the blink of an eye. It’s perfect.

That being said, it’s also mildly depressing that a player of Kobe’s caliber that has accomplished the things that he has over his career is this shocked and/or ecstatic to have shot 50 percent. It’s really damning of the Lakers and their season that this is what it has come to.
For all of the things that are problematic about Lakers head coach Byron Scott demoting both D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle to the bench ahead of the game against the Raptors, it actually seemed to help Bryant to some degree. He was forced to be more selective with his shot attempts and took on the role as more of a facilitator than we’ve seen him be in quite some time.
For the sake of the sanity of fans, though, let’s hope that Bryant isn’t nearly as excited the next time that he shoots 50 percent from the floor and that he doesn’t go another 20-plus games before doing it again.
